What Starling does
How it works
-
Connect once.
Add the extension to Chrome, create your account and approve the connection. Then, on your own X profile, one press lets Starling learn how you write.
-
Browse like always.
Starling adds a ✦ button to posts and to X's composer. Other people's posts you scroll past are not sent anywhere.
-
Drafts appear.
A reply, a quote, a new post or a rewrite, written in your tone and typed into X's own composer.
-
You press Post.
Starling fills the composer and steps back. Edit the draft, post it or throw it away. The button is yours. It always was.
Nothing hidden.
Starling is a hosted service, so drafting sends data to it. Here is what is sent, where it goes and what you control. The privacy guide has the full list.
What is sent
When you ask for a draft or an answer: the post you are answering, the text in the composer, attached images as small copies, your panel messages, your writing samples, and whether you used or changed the draft.
Where it goes
To Starling's servers and to its AI provider, which writes the draft. Payments run through Stripe, so card numbers never reach Starling. Your data is not sold, and there are no ads.
What is never sent
Your direct messages, your X password and other people's posts you scroll past. Your own profile and post stats are sent only if you turn that on.
What you control
Drafting starts only after you agree in the extension. Withdraw that consent, disconnect a browser, export your data or delete your account at any time.
Start free.
A draft is used each time Starling returns a draft or an answer. Failed requests are not charged, and there are no overage charges.

Common questions.
What is Starling?
Starling is an AI writing assistant for X, formerly Twitter. It is a Chrome extension with a hosted service behind it: the extension lives inside X, and the drafts are written by Starling's service and its AI provider.
Does Starling post for me?
No. Starling puts drafts into X's composer and stops. You decide whether to edit, post or discard them. It never presses Post, likes, follows or sends messages.
What do I need?
Desktop Google Chrome, version 120 or later, an X account and a Starling account. Starling does not work in mobile browsers or in the X app.
Where does my writing go?
To Starling's servers and its AI provider, and only when you ask for a draft or an answer: the extension sends the post you are answering, your text and your writing samples. Your direct messages, your X password and other people's posts you scroll past are never sent. The Privacy Policy has the details.
What counts as a draft?
A draft is used each time Starling gives you a draft or an answer. If a request fails, even partway through, if you cancel it before anything is shown, or if Starling holds a draft back after its own checks, nothing is used. Allowances reset every month.
Which topics can it suggest?
Whatever you post about. Starling learns your niche from your own posts, looks for what is new in it, in news feeds and web searches, and cites the pages it used. Replies, quotes, rewrites and chat work on any post.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from your account's billing page. You keep your paid plan until the end of the period you have paid for, then your account moves to Free.
Is Starling part of X?
No. Starling is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by X Corp.
Is this the bank, or the bird?
Neither. Starling is an AI writing assistant for X. It just shares the name.
